This project was developed as part of a student design opportunity to envision a new hockey arena for the Oklahoma State University Hockey Team. The proposal explores a schematic design response that balances athletic performance, fan experience, and campus identity. The design integrates the established architectural style of existing OSU athletic facilities while reimagining the traditional hockey arena through the strategic use of natural light, offering a renewed and contemporary interpretation of the arena experience.
On the interior, the design adopts a warmer material palette to challenge the typically cold and rigid character of hockey arenas. Drawing from a rustic, cowboy-inspired sensibility rooted in OSU’s identity, wood detailing introduces warmth and texture throughout the space. This material strategy works in tandem with natural light from the east-facing windows to create a more inviting atmosphere for both players and spectators, reinforcing the arena’s connection to campus.
